Wild and Seasonal: Predicting the Top Wedding Flower Trends of 2025

The 2024 wedding season is almost over and here at Sweet Bud our diary is open and taking consultations for 2025. To give you some inspiration and explore the wedding flower trends I think are going to be big in 2025, here is my top 5!

1. Seasonal Wedding Flowers

Seasonal flowers will always be one of the most popular trends for wedding flowers. Their popularity has risen year on year as many people move away from importing exotic flowers to showcasing what we can grow locally. If you're not sure what kinds of flowers are available when, your florist can advise you on this.

The most popular seasonal flower used in weddings I'd say is a Peony. Every girls favourite, Peonies are only available in the UK for a small window of time, from May to June. So if you really want gorgeous Peonies in your wedding bouquet, make sure to book your wedding mid May to mid June as this is when Peonies will be in their peak season.

Icelandic Poppies are another popular choice. These are in season from the end of February to May. I love their curvy stems and their petals are like tissue paper. They're a gorgeous unusual seasonal flower and one you're very unlikely to find anywhere but a premium flower shop. They come in a range of colours like bright orange, pastel pink, cream and yellow but are usually sold in a mixed bunch. They also have specific care requirements so if you do ever buy any, make sure to get some advice on how to care for them when cut.

2. Wild Wedding Flowers

Similar to seasonal flowers due to the fact that wild flowers are seasonal in nature, wild flowers have been an increasingly popular trend for weddings over the last few years. An emphasis on the natural is key to this trend. From using seasonal, locally grown stems to arranging in a loose, less formal style.

Wild wedding flowers work well for bouquets and wedding venue decoration. As a top tip, ensure your wild flowers are in water as much as possible, the wilder and daintier your flowers are, the quicker they will wilt out of water.

Popular choices of wild wedding flowers include Delphiniums, Poppies, Cornflowers, Sweet Peas, Garden Roses and Dahlias. Summer is the best time of year for seasonal wild wedding flowers. You'll find your options are very limited during Autumn/Winter as it becomes too cold for most colourful flowers. It's still possible to have wild wedding flowers during the winter season but they will most likely be imported and some things just won't be available at all. Speak to your florist if you're worried about certain flowers being out of season at the time of your wedding. They will be able to recommend alternative stems that will still give your wedding flowers a wild vibe.

3. Colour Blocking and Grouping

A very modern trend, colour blocking and grouping flowers for weddings is becoming more and more popular as a floristry technique. Hydrangeas are great for this with their large round shape which means a lot of space can be covered with just one stem.

As well as using this technique in venue flower decoration as seen above, it can also be used in bridal bouquets. If you like the style of wild flowers, for something a little different, you can combine wild flowers with grouping techniques to create a very unique, modern and on trend bridal bouquet.

4. Bows

Over the past 2 years bows have crept back into the world of floristry as a key design feature. Gone are the days of poly bows (those plastic pom pom style bows you'll see on wedding cars) replaced by the fabric bow! Hallelujah!

Bows can be added to flowers to add an extra element that will draw your eye through the design. Long trails create flow and a bit of whimsy to the flower arrangement. They come in a range of colours, fabrics and sizes to compliment the flowers and can be tied to tall sticky out stems or added to the centre of a flower by tying (like the Anthurium above) or by pinning and wiring into the centre.

5. Greenery

If you're not a big flower lover but love nature then this is the trend for you. You don't have to go big with wedding venue flower decoration. Instead of opting for large colourful flower arrangements, there's always the option of greenery!

Foliage arches, garlands, top table arrangements, bouquets, pew ends and all other forms of wedding flower arrangements can be created using just green flowers and foliage.

It creates a striking flower design and also doesn't have to break the bank. Foliage stems can be a lot cheaper than flower stems and are often sold in bulk. This means you can create more impact at a cheaper cost.

If you're concerned about wastage when decorating your wedding venue with flowers then why not opt for plants? Houseplants are a great option for those who don't want leftover flowers after the wedding ceremony. Plants can be bought and taken home afterwards, or even given to guests to keep. Some florists and plant shops also offer a hire service for events and weddings. You can decorate your tables, create aisle flowers and even make a plant alter arch if you so wished?

That's my top 5 wedding flower trend predictions for 2025: Seasonal flowers, wild flowers, colour blocking/grouping, bows and green. I'm looking forward to incorporating these wedding flower trends into my designs throughout the year ahead. Wild flowers and seasonal wedding designs are already being requested and so has a grouped bridal bouquet.
