About Sweet Bud Florals

Hi, I'm Olivia, founder and florist at Sweet Bud Florals.

Flowers have been at the heart of my career for over 15 years, and what began as a floristry course has grown into a business I'm incredibly proud of.

My floristry journey started at Doncaster College, where I completed both my Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Floristry. During my time there, I was honoured to receive the Student of the Year award, and after completing my Level 3, I was invited back to manage the college's on-site flower shop. This was an incredible opportunity that gave me valuable experience creating flowers for customers, managing a retail floristry environment and supporting students beginning their own floristry journeys.

From there, I worked with a number of florists across the North of England, developing my skills, refining my design style and keeping up with the latest floristry techniques and trends.

My final role before starting Sweet Bud Florals was as a Senior Florist at a busy independent florist in Manchester's vibrant Northern Quarter. During my two years there, I had the opportunity to work on an incredible variety of projects, from luxurious weddings at some of Manchester's most beautiful venues to large-scale installations, brand events and celebrity briefs. I was also proud to contribute to projects with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), experiences that challenged my creativity, strengthened my technical skills and taught me how to deliver exceptional floristry at every scale.

Working on such a diverse range of events gave me invaluable experience in designing flowers that are not only beautiful but also practical, reliable and thoughtfully considered. It also reinforced the values that continue to shape Sweet Bud Florals today: exceptional quality, attention to detail and creating flowers that feel modern, natural and truly memorable.

The Story Behind Sweet Bud Florals

By 2023, I knew it was time to create something of my own.

I founded Sweet Bud Florals with a simple vision: to build a modern, independent florist that offers exceptional flowers, thoughtful design and a more sustainable approach to floristry without compromising on quality.

Sweet Bud first opened in Salford before moving to my hometown of Levenshulme, where I worked from a studio tucked away behind the Antiques Village. As the business grew, so did the demand for our flowers, and it quickly became clear that it was time for the next chapter.

When searching for our first shop, Stockport felt like the perfect home. Despite its thriving independent business scene, the town centre was missing a dedicated florist, and I saw an opportunity to offer something different. I wanted to create a florist that felt fresh, contemporary and welcoming—a place where customers could find beautifully designed flowers, carefully chosen houseplants and a business that genuinely cared about its environmental impact.

Three years on, Sweet Bud Florals has delivered countless bouquets, created stylish wedding flowers for couples across Greater Manchester and Cheshire, designed meaningful funeral tributes and become part of so many special moments in our customers' lives.

One of the things I'm most proud of is that we've maintained a 5-star customer rating throughout our journey. I believe this reflects the care, creativity and attention to detail that goes into every single order, whether it's a simple bouquet to brighten someone's day or a full wedding floral design.

Every bouquet and arrangement is created using carefully selected, premium flowers chosen for their freshness, beauty and longevity. I love working with seasonal flowers and, wherever possible, supporting British growers to celebrate the incredible quality and character of locally grown blooms.

My style is inspired by nature, combining colour, texture and movement to create flowers that feel modern, natural and full of personality. Whether it's a romantic wedding bouquet, a meaningful funeral tribute or a beautiful gift arrangement, every design is thoughtfully created to reflect the occasion and the person receiving it.

Alongside fresh flowers, I have carefully curated a collection of healthy, high-quality houseplants. From easy-care plants for beginners to more unusual varieties for collectors, every plant is selected for its quality, condition and ability to bring lasting beauty into your home.

I believe beautiful flowers and plants should be accessible, which is why Sweet Bud Florals offers exceptional quality at fair and honest prices. My aim is to create designs that feel special and luxurious while remaining affordable for everyday customers.

Our Commitment To Sustainability

Sustainability is one of the core values behind Sweet Bud Florals, and I believe in being open and honest about the choices we make.

Traditional floral foam has been widely used throughout the floristry industry for decades, but it is a single-use plastic that breaks down into microplastics and can have a significant impact on the environment. It was important to me that Sweet Bud Florals took a more considered approach.

Where floral mechanics are required, I use Renewal™ Floral Foam, a lower-impact alternative made with a high percentage of plant-based renewable materials. While it isn't yet fully biodegradable, I believe it offers the best balance between sustainability, reliability and the exceptional quality my customers expect.

I've explored alternatives such as agra wool and moss-based mechanics, but for some designs they can be less reliable, particularly during transport or installation. Rather than making unrealistic claims, I believe in being transparent about the decisions I make and continuing to look for better solutions as new products and techniques become available.

My commitment to sustainability also includes choosing seasonal flowers wherever possible, supporting British growers, reducing waste, reusing and recycling materials throughout the workshop and making thoughtful choices every day that help lessen our environmental impact.

For me, sustainability isn't about claiming to be perfect. It's about constantly learning, improving and making better choices wherever possible while still creating beautiful flowers that people love.
